Tips & honest limits
- Good light helps. Face the sun or use a torch; iPhone Safari often cannot control the camera flash from the web — that is an OS limit, not a bug in this page.
- Rear camera. We ask for the back camera when the phone allows it.
- Demo detection. After a short scan you see a simulated amber box and a randomish confidence (about 70–90%). It is not machine learning and does not claim a real queen ID. Real ML can replace the stub later.
- Training photos. Use Collect training photos to freeze frames and tap where the queen is (or mark no queen). Save only when you are sure. Tick Marked? and pick mark colour (yellow is common in the UK year cycle) when the thorax is painted. Include some no-queen shots so a future model sees empty comb too. Good light and a steady hold help.
- Export for a computer. Open Training library → Export dataset. Safari downloads
queen-finder-labels.jsonplus each JPEG (qf_…jpg). In Files, move them to a folder, then AirDrop or share to a Mac/PC for Roboflow (or similar). Keep the JSON with the matching image filenames. - Privacy. Video, hive-log notes, and training photos stay on this phone until you export. We do not upload frames to Find Honey servers.
- Gloves. Buttons are large on purpose. Tap Allow camera, then Allow on the Safari prompt. If you already denied once, Safari will not ask again until you change it in Settings.
- Still look yourself. Marked queens, movement, and experience beat any app — especially this demo.
